Information About Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer to affect women. There are no better words to describe breast cancer other than it is a horrible disease.

Medically, it is described as an uncontrolled growth of breast cells. Every woman is at some risk of developing breast cancer.

As shown in this diagram, the breasts are compiled of glands, lobes, tissue and ducts. They also hold a high level of fat cells and blood vessels, which receive signals for estrogen and in turn makes them susceptible to fluctuating hormones.

The fat cells in the breast produce and breakdown the estrogen. During the chemical breakdown of estrogen, cancer causing byproducts known as carcinogens are produced. During this process, the carcinogens affect DNA of surrounding cells, which may cause cancer mutation.

For this reason, it is vital for women of all ages to monitor breast health.
